NOVA SCOTIA JOB CENTRE- YOUTH & THE PUBLIC SERVICE: Applying for jobs can feel intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be. 2017 Youth Corps Summer Intern positions. There over 25 internships available throughout Nova Scotia open to High School and post-secondary students. These fulltime, paid positions are 9-weeks, starting June 26th and ending August 25th, 2017. The Youth Corps provides students with hands-on environmental-based internships where they grow their network, gain career skills and make meaningful impact in their communities - You’ll find more information on the Youth Corps program here.

Interested students are asked to apply through the Clean’s online application found here along with the full job descriptions. They will be asked to fill in general contact info and upload a cover letter(s), resume, and letter of reference. Students can apply for up to five positions. The deadline to apply is Midnight, Wednesday May 24th 2017.

 "What do I Need to Graduate?" This is an important topic that all students should be aware of.

There are various websites that focus on career exploration and planning. Here are just some that are geared specifically towards teens and young adults. Students are encouraged to make an appointment through guidance if they require assistance in any way.


CAREER CRUISING is a Canadian-based informative career exploration website that allows students to define their goals and shape their future through career matchmaker quizzes, job profiles, post-secondary schools, resume builders, and so much more. Another great online career resource supported by the province of NS and the Dept of Education, also equipped with career quizzes, education and job info, as well as labour market stats, is



Using, you will develop the employability skills and strategies you need to land the perfect job. With access to job resources, job shadowing videos, articles, campus life tips, volunteer and scholarship information, you will have the tools you need to get a jump start on YOUR career path choices.



These are extremely important documents that represent YOU as an individual and as a potential employee. Format, organziation, and presentation of each of these are key to finding employment. See one example of a resume template below.

There are also handouts on tips and other templates available through guidance. As well, there are various online resources (including Career Cruising) that you can search for on your own. Take the time to research and construct a resume and cover letter that best respresents who you are and what you have to offer. Don't sell yourself short!
